Between 1850 and 1870, Paris underwent massive renovations with entire neighbourhoods being torn down (and poor people evicted) under the supervision of Baron Haussmann. This led to the Haussmanian look in the center of Paris, the wide avenues, the yellow stone buildings… like this one.
